This tour focuses on the North Cotswolds as this area offers the most concentrated spread of major towns and sights. The itinerary is as follows:
Cirencester- the ancient capital of the Roman Empire, it was known as Corundum Dobonnorum and was the second largest city in Roman Britain. The Corinium (Roman) Museum is worth a visit and the Parish Church of St John the Baptist is one of the grandest wool churches in the country.
Bibury– set in the picturesque Coln Valley, William Morris famously described Bibury as “the most beautiful village in England”. Bibury is a very popular spot and has a lovely Saxon church as well as the 14th century row of Weavers cottages, the picture postcard Arlington Row.
Burford– many people’s favourite town in the Cotswolds. A wonderful high street slopes down onto the River Windrush for spectacular views. Full of history and old buildings this is a true jewel in the crown of the Cotswolds. Unmissable!
Stow-on-the-Wold- historical market town built by the Normans with a nice mixture of gardens, manor houses, quaint cottages, interesting shops and cosy tea rooms all surrounded by quintessential Cotswold countryside.
The Slaughters- both Lower and Upper Slaughter are set in the most amazing countryside and offer a quieter take on the Cotswolds with their beautiful honey-stone cottages and picture postcard views.
Bourton-on-the-Water- Arguably the most famous Cotswolds town on the River Windrush with nice village green and high street full of interesting shops and restaurants.
